Jamie Aquino
President/Founder
Jamie is a native Floridian with a passion for the ocean and its marine inhabitants. A former publicist and high school journalism teacher in West Palm Beach, Jamie has been traveling to Haiti on a regular basis since 2007, and Haiti is a second home to her. In 2007, with the help of collaborators, Jamie initiated the Haiti Ocean Project, as she saw a need for marine education and marine conservation in a country such as Haiti. She holds a master’s degree in Science in Education from the University of Miami and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of South Florida.
As the president of Haiti Ocean Project, Jamie oversees all aspects of the organization, although her area of expertise is with education, which she believes is the foundation of all marine conservation initiatives in Haiti. Having spent over a decade establishing relationships with local youth and fishermen in coastal communities primarily in the Nippes region, Jamie knows firsthand the challenges these people face and what is needed to improve their lives as well as protecting their ocean.
